Aziza's Place is a home and learning centre for 22 children, aged 6 - 19 years of age. By clicking on the links below you can read more about each resident. The youngest residents were asked questions in Khmer, and their answers were translated into English. The eldest residents wrote their own reflections in English, in response to questions aimed to give an insight into each of their unique personalities.

Channy When is your birthday and how old are you? My birthday is on the 27th of July in 2001 so I’m almost 10 years old. What grade are you in at school? I’m in grade 2 at school. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I think my favorite subject is Math. What are your favorite activities at Aziza’s Place? I like drawing. What do you like to do during your free time? I like to play outside because it makes me very happy! What job would you like to do in the future? I would like to be a doctor so that when my mom and my dad are sick, I will be able to help and take care of them. Where do you want to go when you grow up? I would like to visit my parents in my homeland in Takeo province.	Chanthy When is your birthday and how old are you? I was born on the 10th of August in 1998 so I’m 13 years old. What grade are you in at school? At school, I’m in grade 6. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I think I like Math and Science. When the teacher explains things to me sometimes I don’t understand, so he takes the time to explain it to me again and again until I understand everything. I study these subjects with the night teacher too. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? I like English, Math and Computer Studies because these three subjects are very useful if I plan to work in a company in the future. What do you like to do during your free time? I ride a bicycle and I listen to music because it sounds good! What job would you like to do in the future? I think that I am going to work in a company as an accountant. With this job I can earn a lot of money and help my family and other people. Where do you want to go when you grow up? So many places, but if I have to choose, I would like to go on Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island) near Kep, because I’ve heard there’s forest over there. After, I want to visit New York because that’s a big place that I don’t know yet. Amjad also told me London is a very nice place to go, so I’ll go there too. What do you see when you imagine yourself in ten years? I work in a big company and I live in my home in Kandal province because there are holidays...

Lina When is your birthday and how old are you? I was born on July 23th in 2003. I’m 7 years old. What grade are you in at school? I study in grade 2. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I like Khmer because when the teacher explains I understand. When I know many words, I will be able to read. I think I want to be a teacher in the future, but maybe not a Khmer teacher. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? First, I like computer activities because I like typing and playing games. My second choice is English. With this language I can read, speak and especially speak with the volunteers. And I also like football because I am strong in this sport and I want to win. What do you like to do during your free time? I enjoy playing around, and art, including drawing. What job would you like to do in the future? I want to be a football teacher because I really love this sport and it makes me happy! Where do you want to go when you grow up? I would like to go the land where my parents come from, it’s in Kampong Speu province. I also want to go to New York because I don’t know it and I want to discover this place. What do you see when you imagine yourself in ten years? When I will be 18 I think I will work.	Navy When is your birthday and how old are you? I was born on the 12th of May in 2000 so I’m just 11 years old. We celebrated my birthday last week. What grade are you in at school? I study in grade 5. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I like Maths, just because I like it. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? I like Maths, like I said before. I like learning English because I can speak with the volunteers. I also like karate; the teacher says it is good for my health. I love playing football and dancing. Finally, I like the computer lessons because I want to know how a computer works and in my future I would like to study software and typing. What do you like to do during your free time? I enjoy playing with the other kids of Aziza’s Place and sometimes I also help the Moms do the cooking. What job would you like to do in the future? I have three ideas for the moment. My first one is to become a Math teacher because I want to help children to understand this subject. After, I could be a doctor. If my family is sick I could help them to be better. And finally, I dream of being a singer just because I love that! Where do you want to go when you grow up? Maybe go to Canada. I would like to see the sea and the waterfalls. What do you see when you imagine yourself in ten years? I’m working as doctor!

Ream When is your birthday and how old are you? My birthday is on September 14th, in 2000, I’m 10 years old. What grade are you in at school? I study in grade 2 at school. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I think my favorite subjects are Math and Khmer because I learn that easily. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? I like sports because they keep me healthy, so I love playing both football and karate. It’s totally different but I also like dancing; it’s funny to have my back arched. What do you like to do during your free time? I choose a book and I read it. What job would you like to do in the future? I would like to be a doctor. Where do you want to go when you grow up? I would like to go on Koh Tonsay, Rabbit Island near Kep.	Sokty When is your birthday and how old are you? I am 12 years old and I was born on September 8th in 1999. What grade are you in at school? I’m in grade 5 at school. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I like both Science and Math because it’s really easy for me to learn these subjects! What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? Without a doubt, football! This activity gives me some skills and sport is especially good for my health. What do you like to do during your free time? I like talking to my friends because they are really good friends to me! What job would you like to do in the future? I don’t know, maybe I could become a scientist because I’m good at learning science. Where do you want to go when you grow up? I would like to visit South America and especially Brazil. I heard that they have good teachers and so I can learn more skills.

Sreynak When is your birthday and how old are you? My birthday is on the 9th of June in 2005, so I am 6 years old. What grade are you in at school? This year, I’m studying in grade 1. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? My favorite subjects are Maths and Khmer because both appear easy to learn for me! What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? I like computer studies because during this activity I can play games. My second favorite subject is English. This language is easy for me. What do you like to do during your free time? I enjoy playing with my friends and taking showers because it’s cold. What job would you like to do in the future? I want to become a doctor. I want to take care of other people. I am also not afraid of surgical units! Where do you want to go when you grow up? I would like to go to Takeo province because my father lives there and we can find so many mango trees. What do you see when you imagine yourself in ten years? I am putting some water in the plants!	Sreynat When is your birthday and how old are you? I was born on the 3rd of February in 2000, so I’m 11 years old. What grade are you in at school? I’m in grade 3. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I like studying Math and Khmer. Math because when I am older I can go to the market. Math is very useful for buying fruit and vegetables. And I like speaking Khmer. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place?I like music a little bit, because in Cambodia nobody knows how to play a musical instrument, so I want to learn. What do you like to do during your free time? I like watching movies and playing outside. What job would you like to do in the future? I am not sure yet, I have two ideas. First one, I would like to be a doctor because I want to help people. Working for a company is my second option, maybe in a bank as an accountant.

Sreyphea When is your birthday and how old are you? My birthday is on December 31. 2000. I’m 10 years old. What grade are you in at school? I study in grade 5 this year. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I like Math and Science. Math because I would like to become a doctor, and Science to learn more about Science and nature. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? I love sports, so karate and football! Sometimes we have tournament competitions in karate and I like it because I win. With football it is the same thing. In this sport, I don’t win but I’m happy because we are all together ! What do you like to do during your free time? I like playing with the other kids at Aziza’s Place. We play football or cards. What job would you like to do in the future? I would like to be a doctor. With this work I could help my family, other people in Cambodia and also other people from other countries. Where do you want to go when you grow up? I want to go home to Kampot province. When I will stop my studies, I will go to the USA during my holidays. I want to know about other countries and visit them. What do you see when you imagine yourself in ten years? I’m in a high grade, I’m studying at university.	Sreysros When is your birthday and how old are you? My birthday is on the 8th of October in 1998. I’m 12 but almost 13. What grade are you in at school? I study in grade 5. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? Let me think, I like learning Khmer because with this subject I can read hard words. Math is also a subject I like. It makes me clever. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? Art because when I am older I will know how to draw. I like learning karate too. In Aziza’s Place we practice every week and I can win during a championship! What do you like to do during your free time? I like reading books and playing with my friends too. What job would you like to do in the future? I haven’t a precise idea now but I would like working in the art field. Where do you want to go when you grow up? I would like to go to my province, Kandal province.

Sengkry When is your birthday and how old are you? I was born on the 31st of October in 1997 so I’m 13 years old. What grade are you in at school? I am studying in grade 7 at school. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? I like learning Math and English. I think Math is connected to everything. Whatever you do you always need Math, that’s why in my mind it is really important to learn Math. For English it’s different. With this language I can speak with foreigners, and if I speak with them I can improve and learn more English. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? First, Arts because I like painting and drawing. Then without hesitation, sports, all kind of sports - like football and basketball. I feel good when I practice, and it’s healthy. What do you like to do during your free time? I like playing sports and XO. With XO computers we can play games and we have animation programs. All of that is new for me, that’s why I like it. What job would you like to do in the future? I didn’t think about that yet. Maybe I would be a doctor. This job could allow me to help people because you know so many people die. Moreover, I want to study math. Where do you want to go when you grow up? I think to America, especially New-York. I could go to university there and get a job. I would like to go there because people have a good situation there and they all speak English, so I could improve! What do you see when you imagine yourself in ten years? When I will be 23? I’ll finish university and go back home to Phnom Penh. Maybe I’ll have a job in Cambodia. And after that, I will get a house and get married!	Navin When is your birthday and how old are you? November 6, 2002. I am nine years old. What are your favorite subjects at school? Why? Mathematics because I like to calculate numbers. What are your favorite activities at Aziza's Place? I like football and Khmer lessons. What do you like to do during your free time? I like to read books. I don’t like to play or watch movies. What job would you like to do in the future? I’m not sure what I would like to do when I grow up, but I know I would like a good job. Where do you want to go when you grow up? I would like to go to the USA in the future. What do you see when you imagine yourself in ten years? In ten years I would like to be studying and getting good grades in university.
